Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end – “Closing Time” by Semisonic
I flicked on the radio of my car as I pulled away from the apartment I lived in for the last three years and with a great sense of irony found the song “Closing Time” had just begun. Ironic; Poetic; Fitting. For the next eight hours, I drove through some of the most Wisconsin-like weather possible – rain, sleet, snow, blowing winds, and at times no visibility. The growing crack in my windshield didn’t help with the visibility matters, but it was at least nice enough to stay mostly on the passenger side of the car.
Currently it’s just before 6PM on Wednesday. Less than a full week from now I’ll be on a plane from New Orleans to Washington D.C. …and then beyond. After spending 2.5 days packing, moving, and unpacking, I still don’t actually have time to rest and really become cognizant of the entire situation. As I sit here typing I have a list of over a dozen things that still need to get done – some trivial (putting new music on an iPod or two) and others are more time consuming (find good walking sandals, replace the cracked windshield). I fully expect that tomorrow will start early and end late. Who knew that planned unemployment and getting ready for a trip across the world could keep someone so busy?
